Dollhouse II

September 2012, Patissia, Athens

If you find the time, please come and stay a while
In my beautiful neighbourhood

In a hundred and ten they haven't paid the rent
So there goes the TV with the repo men
In 999 they make a living from crime
The house is always empty 'cause they're all doing time

In number 18 there lives a big butch queen
He's bigger than Tyson and he's twice as mean
In 666 there lives a Mr. Miller
He's our local vicar and a serial killer

~ Space, "Neighbourhood"

Dollhouse I

September 2012, Patissia, Athens

Who lives in a house like this?

They want to knock us down 'cause they think we're scum
But we will all be waiting when the bulldozers come
In a neighbourhood like this you know it's hard to survive
So you'd better come prepared 'cause they won't take us alive

If you find the time, please come and stay a while
In my beautiful neighbourhood

~ Space, "Neighbourhood"

Existential

September 2012, Patissia, Athens

This is obviously an abstraction symbolizing mankind's eternal fear of the dark and the unknown, of what lies beyond the tunnel, with religious and metaphysical undertones in the subject matter, while the loose composition subtly reminds us of man's existential agony in the face of death.

OR, this is me taking pictures stone drunk in the wee hours of the morning, and neglecting to keep my fingers away from the lens. Take your pick.

You're a liar, said the last whore

August 2012, Lisbon Aquarium

Now let ev'ry man drink off his full bumper,
And let ev'ry man drink off his full glass;
We'll drink and be jolly and drown melancholy,
And here's to the health of each true-hearted lass.

I rose to the smell of a wet desert hell
and I thought to myself, how'd I wind up in this jail?
Till a voice called to me from deep within the sea:
“Dry your eyes, my little fisherman, your ass belongs to me.”
The sea is a cruel mistress.

Quisiera morir cantando sobre de un barco leñero
Y cultivar en sus aguas un libro mas justiciero
Con letras de oro que diga "No hay padre para el isleño"
Llorando estoy - Ni viento pa su leñero, me voy me voy

We wrapped them all in a mainsail tight
with twice ten turns of a hawser's bight
And we heaved them over and out of sight

with a yo-heave-ho and a fare-ye-well
and a sudden plunge in the sullen swell,
ten fathoms deep on the road to hell

Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum

And now I feel like an idiot.

My default film mode when using the Lumix is "B&W Dynamic", which (I assume) is B&W with some contrast, which (I guess) emulates better the old film practice of printing on "hard" paper.

During this trip, I shot almost exclusively in colour, and thought "that's alright, if I want B&W pictures, I'll process them later - how hard can it be?"

Apparently, A LOT. I just can't get it right. So what do I do from now on? Do I practice, fumbling blindly, hoping the right method will spontaneously emerge at some point? Do I look up tutorials? For what exactly? "Convert colour to B&W in a Jenny-satisfying manner"?

Ughh!
